Lyla K. Mentink, 76 of 302 Second Street NE, died Monday, May 10, 2004 at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 13, 2004 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 North Pennsylvania Avenue with the Rev. James M. Magelssen officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Lyla K. Mentik Memorial Fund. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Wednesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue. Lyla Katherine Brunsvold was born June 21, 1927 the daughter of Albert L. and Ella B.(Ellingson) Brunsvold in rural Kensett, Iowa. She graduated from Kensett High School in 1945. Lyla was united in marriage to Maurice Mentink on October 2, 1955 in Kensett. She worked for the State of Iowa as a Health Aide for fifteen years. Lyla was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Women?s Church Circle. She loved to play cards, sew, have coffee with friends, and spend time with her grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of Good Shepherd Health Center and Hospice of North Iowa for the care Lyla received. Lyla is survived by: son, Michael Mentink and wife Kari of Mason City; daughter, Maureen Harrer of Mason City; grandchildren, Blake and Camre Harrer, Turner and McKenna Mentink; sister, Harriet Petcoff of Mason City; sister-in-law, Arlys Kimball of Mason City, brother-in-law, John Mentink and wife Mary of Mason City, sister-in-law, Margaret Johnson and husband Dean of Chicago, Illinois; sister-in-law, Ragna Flatness and husband Ronnie of Mason City; brother-in-law, Joe Mentink and wife Pat of Indianapolis, IN; brother-in-law, Paul Fransen and wife Mary of Des Moines and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by special friends Fred and Nina Carson of Mason City, Beverly Kohoutek of Mason City and Garda Ones of Mason City. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Maurice; sister, Alice Holstad; brother-in-laws Steve Petcoff and Vern ?Mug? Kimball; and sister-in-law Judy Fransen.
