Lyle A. ?Andy? Anderson, 85, of Mason City, died Saturday, April 21, 2007 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday (April 24, 2007) at the First Covenant Church, Hwy 122 at South Ohio, with Rev. Tammy Swanson-Draheim officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with Full Veteran Honors performed by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Visitation will be held 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday, (April 23, 2007) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Memorials may be directed to First Covenant Church or Hospice of North Iowa. Lyle was born December 2, 1921 in Forest City, IA the son of Elmer V. and Alberta (Peters) Anderson. He attended school in Forest City, after school he worked as a farm hand in the Forest City area. He was married to Lorraine ?Babe? Stangler on November 11, 1941 in Princeton, MO. He was drafted into the Army on January 19, 1943 and was in the 25th Calvary Recon Squad in WWII. While in the service he received many awards for his service to his country. He was honorably discharged on October 24, 1945. After return from the service he worked for Jacob E. Decker & Sons until being employed by the City of Mason City where he worked as the Distribution Supervisor in the Water Department for thirty-six years until his retirement in 1983. After retirement he enjoyed volunteering for RSVP. He bowled for many years in various leagues, including, Industrial League B, Over the Hill Gang, and Early Bird Mixed Doubles. In his younger years he enjoyed playing ?fast pitch? softball and also enjoyed golfing, and his many trips to Branson, Missouri. Family was important in Lyle?s life and he was always a part of his grandsons? sports and music activities. He enjoyed playing cribbage with his grandson Mark and enjoyed sharing army memories with his grandson Matt. His great-grandchildren were his pride and joy and enjoyed the time he spent with all his family. He will be remembered for his fabulous ?divinity? candies. Lyle was a member of the VFW and the First Covenant Church. He is survived by his son, Lyle Anderson Jr. and wife Judy of Nora Springs; daughter, Joyce Anderson of Mason City; grandsons, SGT. Matthew L. Anderson and wife Rita of Ft. Campbell, KY, Mark L. Anderson and wife Jennifer of Nora Springs; five great-grandchildren, Emily, Erin and Elizabeth Anderson of Redfield, IA and Aleah and Skye Anderson of Nora Springs; two step great-grandchildren, Lauren and Michael Sawyer of Ft. Campbell, KY; four sisters-in-law, Marguerite Hanson, Elizabeth Gregory, Joanne White and husband Bob, Harriet Krutsinger and husband Dick; brother-in-law, Donald Stangler and wife Pat. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lorraine in 1977; three brothers and five sisters.
