M. Carol Gordon

Carol Gordon, 79, passed away on November 2, 2023, in Mason City, Iowa. Carol will be forever remembered as a caring wife, a loving mother, and a friend to all who happened to cross her path. Carol battled congestive heart failure for decades and was recently diagnosed with esophageal cancer.

Carol was born and raised in Gary, Indiana, to Joseph and Estelle, one of three children, and found her calling to God early in life. After high school graduation she joined the Sisters of Saint Casimir Convent in Chicago, Illinois, and simultaneously earned her degree from DePaul University. After earning her BA in English from DePaul, Carol left the Order and moved to Gillette, Wyoming, and married Martin Gordon.

Carol and Martin eventually moved to Mason City, Iowa, and raised their family. Carol will be forever remembered as the most dedicated mother and wife she could be, always ensuring others had what they needed to achieve their goals. She found immense joy in ensuring every detail was covered, thinking one step ahead.

In true Carol fashion, she had explicit instructions for her obituary: “NO FRILLS” – in all caps to boot! And that wish will be honored. Carol’s husband of 54 years, Martin, and close friends and family know that life moving forward will not be the same, but they are forever cherishing having had her in their lives.

We will be remembering the wonderful impact Carol had on many of us on Saturday, November 11, 2023, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, at Major Erickson Funeral Home in Mason City, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. There will be a brief service in honor of Carol starting at 2pm (all are welcome), followed by an open reception for family and friends. Cards may be sent to Martin Gordon, 14 N Willowgreen Ct. Carol believed in sharing life whenever possible through the organ donation program; Carol was able to help two individuals through her corneal donation coordinated by the Iowa Lions Eye Bank.
