MASON CITY: M. Maxine Sanberg, 90, of Mason City, died Friday, December 6, 2013 at the Heritage Care Center. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Rev. Kathryn Rust, First Congregational United Church of Christ officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Memorials may be directed to Lime Creek Nature Center, Humane Society of North Iowa, or the First Congregational United Church of Christ. Marion Maxine Sanberg was born April 15, 1923, the youngest of three daughters born to Isaac N. and Martina (Elm) Sanberg. Maxine graduated from Mason City High School in 1941, from Mason City Junior College in 1943, and from the University of Minnesota with her medical technology degree in 1945. She was employed at Park Hospital and Mercy Hospital, Mason City, as a medical laboratory professional until her retirement at age 70. Maxine was an executive board member of the Lime Creek Nature Center Foundation, a member of the North Iowa Nature Club, and a member of the North Iowa Photo Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Florence Sanberg in 1995, and her sister, Lillian Sanberg in 1996. Maxine had a lifelong appreciation of the natural world, enjoyed photography, and loved her companion dogs.
