Madalene K. Fiala, 97, of Mason City, IA, died Monday, August 22, 2016, at Heritage Care and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM on Thursday, September 1, 2016, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Rev. Steve Hansen officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Madalene Fiala memorial fund in care of the family.
Madalene was born September 16, 1918, in Mason City, the daughter of Joseph Goetz and Flora (Kassel) Kartel. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1937. On December 24, 1939, she married Wesley Frank Fiala at the Methodist parsonage in Faribault, MN. Over the years, she worked for H.C. Brown Company, Standard Oil, Clayton L. Wornson, Mason City Brick and Tile, Freight Traffic Department and Dr. Powell before retiring in 1983. She served on the Election Team for city, county and national elections. She also served as chairman for her 50th, 55th and 60th class reunions. Madalene was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, WFLA, ZCBJ Lodge, UCT Auxiliary #64, Hawkeye Camera Club, Grant PTA (president) and PTA (past president). She was also a resident advocate for Heritage Care Center and Elderbridge. Madalene enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, gardening, keeping busy and playing the piano.
Madalene is survived by 2 children: Wesley Robert Fiala and wife Eleanor of Mason City and Sharon Jeanne Tatro of Kyle, TX; and 3 grandchildren: Mike Fiala, Dave Fiala and Keith Fiala.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2002; son-in-law: Clifford Tatro; 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
