Malcolm G. Bell, 87, of Nora Springs, died Monday, January 23, 2012, at the IOOF Home in Mason City. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church – WAYside Chapel, 119 S. Georgia – Mason City, with Rev. Sean McRoberts officiating. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 5:00 PM – 7:00PM on Friday (January 27, 2012) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Inurnment will be at the Park Cemetery in Nora Springs, at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Malcolm Bell memorial fund in care of the family. Malcolm was born February 5, 1924, at home in Portland Township, IA on a farm. Parents were Malcolm G. and Gertrude (O’Harrow) Bell. He attended country school and Mason City High School - graduating in 1941. He married Delores Borack in May of 1944. They had three children: Sharon, Diana, and Douglas. Mac farmed with his father, and then son Douglas, all his life. Raising livestock (dairy cattle springers and hogs) was Mac’s true love. Mac bowled on the Mason City Industrial League and the Nora Springs Buffalo League, - receiving many trophy’s over the years. Malcolm owned an Aronica Chief airplane and flew 10 years. He had a grass strip runway on the farm. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Malcolm is survived by his wife of 67 years: Delores Bell; three children: Sharon Bell of Vail, CO, Diana Blood and husband Jim of Sheffield, IA, and Douglas Bell and wife Patsy of Nora Springs; grandchildren: Tracy Shreckengost and husband Tim, Shelley Sheppard and husband Steve, Erin Suntken and husband Darin, and Jamie Stanbrough and husband Dan - all of Sheffield, Kevin Bell of Iowa City, and Emily Bell of Waverly, IA; 11 great grandchildren; and two sisters: Verda Jacobs of Mason City, and Mary Cross of Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Arcley Nelson.
