Margaret Leona McMullin, 69, of Mason City, IA, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2014, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, after a lengthy battle with leukemia and lymphoma. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 7, 2014, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Rev. Steve Hansen, Rev. Keith Scott and Deacon Brent Hamilton officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Thursday, February 6, 2014, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue one hour prior to the church service. Interment will take place at Brush Point Cemetery in Hanlontown, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society – Iowa Chapter, 2175 NW 86th Street, Des Moines, IA 50325 or Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Avenue, Mason City, IA 50401. The family will not be accepting floral arrangements. They also request no food. Margaret Leona Kisner was born February 24, 1944, in Manly, IA, the daughter of Ellsworth “Duke” and Golda L. (Kleckner) Kisner. Following her graduation from North Central High School in Manly in 1964, Margaret moved to Mason City. She worked as a Dietary Aide at Mercy Medical Center for 47 years before her retirement in 2006. On June 13, 1991, Margaret married Layton S. McMullin at the Wesley United Methodist Church. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church where she held many offices including Administrative Council, Women’s School of Missions, World Community Food Bank, Hospitality Committee, Worship Committee and Sarah Leah Circle. She was also a member of the Mason City Election Board, Lake Area Quilters Guild, River City Doll Club, Embroidery Club, North Iowa Quilters Guild, Habitat for Humanity and “The Daughters of the American Revolution” (DAR). Margaret had helped her father while he was authoring the “Hanlontown History” as well as helping him with his other research and writing projects of local history including several chapters of the Worth County History of 1977. Margaret was a supporter of Stebens Children’s Theatre, NIACC Performing Arts and Iowa Hawkeye I Club. Margaret enjoyed baking, quilting, volunteering and the North Iowa Fair – where she received many ribbons. In 2010, Margaret was involved with starting the “My Friendly Sewing Center” where a group of ladies can quilt every day. She was an avid sports fan and loved cheering on the Iowa Hawkeye’s and Minnesota Twins Baseball and Vikings Football Teams. Margaret and her twin sister Margery attended many athletic events at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 22 years: Layton McMullin of Mason City; her twin sister: Margery Espey of Hartley, IA; a brother: Mark Kisner and wife Kathy of Hawkeye, IA; maternal aunt: Lyla Kalous of Iowa Falls, IA; sister-in-law: Linda McMullin of Hanlontown; and special friend: JoAnn Johnson of Mason City. She is also survived by many special cousins, nieces, nephews, and several other extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister-in-law: Becky Kisner; and brother-in-law: Dean Espey.

Interment will take place at Brush Point Cemetery in Hanlontown, IA
