Maria G. Pappajohn, 98, of Mason City, died peacefully Wednesday (June 30, 2004) at home. Funeral services will be 10:00AM Saturday at the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 1311 2nd St. SW with Rev. Joseph Mirowski officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 6:30 PM Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. A Trisagion prayer service will be held 6:30 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church or charity of choice in memory of Maria. Maria was born January 2, 1906 in St. Luke?s, Greece the daughter of George and Anastasia Zanios. She married George Pappajohn September 10, 1927 and emigrated to the United States March 25, 1929. Maria is survived by her three sons, John (Mary) of Des Moines, Aristotle (Barbara) of Mason City, Socrates (Elaine) of Mason City; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and many niece and nephews. Maria was preceded in death by her husband, George. She was very proud of her family and a dedicated mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved her family, church and was an avid gardener and renowned for her culinary expertise. Maria was able to live in her home until her death always surrounded by family and friends.
