Marlett C. Hammervold, 88, of Mason City, died on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, December 20th at First Baptist Church, 125 East State St. in Mason City. A brunch in Marlett’s honor will be held at 10:30 A.M., family and friends are invited to join. Interment will follow in the Belmond Cemetery, Belmond, Iowa. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to service time at the church.
Marlett was born on October 17, 1930 in rural Goodell, IA to Albert and Anna (Kruse) Dettman. She was born and raised through her elementary years in rural Belmond, Iowa country schools. She graduated from Kanawha High School in 1949, and attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City shortly after. She was united in marriage to William “Bill” Hammervold on March 16, 1951 at First Baptist Church in Mason City. Michael was born to this union.
Marlett was very active in the Mason City community for many years; she worked in various accounting positions in Mason City, with the final 44 years at Schukei Motors. She volunteered her time during elections, working at the polling and election sites. She enjoyed participating in many church activities. Marlett cherished her time with her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was an avid pet lover, and in her spare time Marlett loved reading and embroidering.
Marlett is survived by her daughter in law, Molly Hammervold; brother, Bill (Jane) Dettman; grandchildren, Trisha (Troy) O’Hern, and Travis Hammervold; and great-grandchildren, Carter, Lauren, Colton, Chloe, and Reagan. She is also survived by a nephew, Matthew Dettman.
Marlett was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill; son, Mike; and her parents.
