MASON CITY: Marlin Henry Hammje, 75, of Mason City, died Saturday, April 25, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Wednesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Pastor Jeni Bohls, St. James Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Marlin Hammje Memorial Fund. Marlin was born July 19, 1939 in Wadena, Minnesota the son of Henry and Martha Hammje. He attended school in New York Mills, Minnesota. After high school, Marlin enlisted in the US Army. Following his service to the country, he moved to Mason City in 1959 and met the love of his life, Ruby Jane Theilen. They were married September 10, 1960 at St. James Lutheran Church in Mason City. Marlin spent the first 14 years of his working life as a concrete finisher for Davy & Moen Construction. He then went to work for Northwestern Portland Cement (Holcim Cement). He retired in August of 2005 after 32 ½ years. Marlin enjoyed auto racing, attending the local races as well as watching NASCAR races on television. He was a member of the River City Street Rods Car Club and enjoyed playing games on the computer and researching antique cars. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors and was especially proud of his well-groomed lawn. Marlin wants his guests who attend his service to know they are more than welcome to dress casually. Marlin is survived by his wife, Ruby of 54 years; special niece and nephew, Jim and Debbie Dow of Rockford and their children Marcus and Sabrina Dow. Marlin will also be missed by a host of family and friends. Marlin was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law, Harry and Bessie Theilen; brother-in-law, Clarence “Rex” Theilen.
