Marvin D. Bomgaars

MASON CITY Marvin D. Bomgaars, 79, of Mason City, died Friday, January 14, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at First Presbyterian Chuch, 100 S Pierce, with Pastor Paul Collier officiating. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Memorials may be directed to the Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank or Hospice of North Iowa.

Marvin was born November 29, 1931, in Boyden, Iowa, the son of Arie and Cornelia (Vander Poel) Bomgaars. He graduated from Boyden High School before graduating from the University of South Dakota with a degree in accounting. He was united in marriage to Anna Dekkenga on June 7, 1957, in Matlock, IA. They moved to Des Moines when Marvin began working for the IRS before moving to Mason City. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the VFW and YMCA.

Marvin is survived by his two sons, Craig Bomgaars of Chicago, IL, Clark (Monica) Bomgaars of Helena, MT; grandchildren, Arie and Benjamin Bomgaars; brother, Lee (Judy) Bomgaars of Libertyville, IL; sister-in-law, Ruth Bomgaars of Cincinnati, OH; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anna; brother, Marion Bomgaars.

Memorials:
Memorials may be directed to the Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank or Hospice of North Iowa.

Cemetery:
Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery.
