Marvin D. Movick

Marvin D. Movick, 86, of Mason City, IA, died Monday, February 2, 2015, at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 7, 2015, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Rev. Kent A. Mechler, Chaplain, Good Shepherd Health Center officiating. A private family inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Marvin Movick memorial fund in care of the family. Marvin was born February 24, 1928, in rural Ottosen, IA, the son of Peter and Clara (Ellingson) Movick. In 1946, he graduated from Linn Grove High School in Linn Grove, IA. He worked for Coca-Cola in Humboldt, IA, before enlisting in the U.S. Army. Marvin served his country during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge in 1952. On September 18, 1954, Marvin married Margaret Johnson at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mason City. He worked for Bell Telephone Company for many years before retiring in 1986. He had many job transfers throughout Iowa and Oklahoma. While living in Lawton, OK, Marvin and Margaret sold Real Estate for 7 years. Marvin enjoyed spending time with his family. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing, playing cards, boating, spending summers at the lake and taking vacations up north. His main passion was golf. He loved to play and make clubs. Marvin was a former member of the VFW, the Jaycees (President), Rotary and the CWA (Communication Workers of America) (President). Marvin is survived by his wife of 60 years: Margaret Movick of Mason City; 2 daughters: Carol Theisen and husband Tony of Atlanta, GA and Kirsten Anderson and husband Gary of Red Wing, MN; 5 grandchildren: Whitney Culbertson and husband Robert of Morris, MN, Cpl Ian Anderson of San Diego, CA, Jennifer Theisen of Atlanta, Andrew Theisen of Valdosta, GA and Brennen Anderson of Menomonie, WI; 3 great granddaughters; and 4 siblings: Darlene Oppedahl of Mason City, Bernie Movick of Sioux City, IA, Donna Gatton of Loveland, CO and Arlo Movick and wife Shirley of Mason City. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 children in infancy: Allen, Eric and Steven; 1 great grandson in infancy; and 4 siblings: Ardis Opheim, Mardell Landmesser, Nyle Movick and Peter Movick.
