Mary B. Colby, 79, of Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake, died Saturday August 26, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa. A family graveside committal service will be held at 11:30 AM, Tuesday, September 5, 2006 in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City. The family will host a reception for friends, staff, and residents of Oakwood Care Center in the Bayside Room at Oakwood Care Center at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, September 5, 2006. Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa. Mary was born March 20, 1927, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Joseph W. and Eleanor (Storer) Colby. Since she was born 2 months premature, Mary suffered from Spastic Paralysis and was unable to walk without aid. She attended Mason City Public Schools through the use of Mason City?s first ?twin phones? hookup between the old Washington School and her grandparents? home. Mary lived most of her adult life at nursing homes in Minneapolis, Mason City, and Clear Lake. Mary?s pleasant and positive attitude endeared her to all who knew her. Mary will be deeply missed by her special aunt; Charlotte Snell, who tended to all of Mary?s needs and visited her daily; cousins, Lee (Mary Ellen) Snell, Joan Snell (Doug Carnall) of Mason City, Marlys Rawson of Garner, Gene (Jane) Beinke of Clinton, Howard (Audrey) O?Leary, Jr. of Mason City, and many more cousins across the county. Mary was preceeded in death by her parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
