Mary H. Smith, 76, of Mason City died Wednesday (Dec. 10, 2008) at Good Shepherd Health Center. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Jim Stiles of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Memorials may be directed to the Mary Smith Memorial Fund. Mary was born Aug. 4, 1932, in Mason City, the daughter of Lyle K. and Dorothy M. (Proskovec) Murl. Mary was baptized in the First Assembly of God Church. She attended Mason City schools. On Nov. 15, 1952, she married Luverne R. Smith in Northwood. Mary worked for 22 years for Stoyles Printing Co. before retiring. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the love of her life. She enjoyed spending time with them, as well as with her brother and sisters. Mary loved taking care of her cat "Boo." She was an avid bird watcher and also enjoyed playing cards, traveling, gambling, taking car rides in the country and going out to eat with her husband and her family. Survivors include her children, Judy Klobassa and husband, Ralph, of Mason City, Sharlene Juhl and husband, Joseph, of Nora Springs, Michael Smith and wife, Linda, of Mason City; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters: Dorothy Simmons and husband, Stanley, of Mason City, Betty Cheney and husband, Dale, of Mason City and Geraldine Klunder and husband, Robert, of Hampton; one brother, Lyle K. Murl Jr. and wife, Dixie, of Mason City; extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luverne, in 1995; and her parents. With special thanks to friends and family, Good Shepherd and Hospice.
