Mason City

Mary Jo Fisher, 84, of Mason City, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 100 1st St NE. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N Pennsylvania Ave. Interment will be held in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Mason City Municipal Band. 

Mary Jo was born on October 26, 1939, in Mason City to Harold S. and Ruth I. (Fullerton) Palmer. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1958, and attended the University of Iowa. Mary Jo married Jack Fisher on April 11, 1959, in Mason City.

 Mary Jo was a longtime member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ and a member of PEO Chapter GN in Mason City. She enjoyed coffee with her friends at Hy-Vee East, meeting with the Mason City High School class reunion groups of 1956 and 1958, traveling, spending time at Clear Lake, watching musical performances including the Mason City Municipal Band, as well as reading and genealogy. Mary Jo enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren & great-grandchildren

 Mary Jo was a teacher's assistant for many years at Discovery Time Preschool and also worked as an administrative assistant at Americana nursing home in Mason City. 

 Mary Jo is survived by her three children, William (Ann) Fisher of Clear Lake; Kathy (Phil) Alscher of Valdosta, Georgia; and Robert Fisher of Mason City; grandchildren Ross (Araina) Fisher, Brian Fisher, David (Jacqueline) Alscher, and Sara Alscher (Ryan Whitemore); and great-grandchildren Corinne Fisher & Madeline Fisher.
