Mary L. Paraskevas, 88, of 819 S. Polk Avenue, died Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at Good Shepherd Health Center. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday at the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 1311, 2nd Street SW with Rev. Joseph Mirowski officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be given to the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church. Mary was born July 4, 1919 in Samos, Greece. She attended school in Samos and graduated from high school their. Mary married Louis Paraskevas April 16, 1947 in Athens, Greece and moved to the United States that same year. She worked for Jacob B. Decker and sons for several years. She then worked for Smith Draperies, making drapes, and later for Damon?s and Tyler-Ryan Furniture Store. She was a long time member of the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church where she enjoyed baking for her church and neighbors. Mary is survived by a brother-in-law in Greece and many nieces and nephews. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, siblings and husband, Louis in 1991.
