Online condolences may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com Mary was born July 25, 1949, the daughter of Robert and Ella (Kyhl) Turk in Mason City where she attended Mason City schools, graduating in 1967. Mary cherished her family and friends up and down North Carolina Ave. Some of her fondest memories of those days were that of those spent on her horse, Gypsy. Mary graduated from NIACC in the first year of the A.D.N. Program and then worked as a nurse for twenty five years at Mercy Hospital as a head nurse in the Urology Department and later in Orthopedics. Mary was a vivacious person and made many friends over her long nursing career as Mary was always thinking of others, a true caregiver. Mary was baptized into the Lutheran faith on September 18, 1949 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mason City where she remained a life-long member. It was this faith in her Lord that sustained her through the long struggle with Multiple Sclerosis. As a member of Bethlehem, Mary served on the Board of Evangelism calling souls to Christ. When M.S. no longer allowed her to make calls and visit shut-ins, she continued her Evangelism through cards and letters. Mary was united in marriage to Gary L. Hanson on August 25, 1973 in Mason City and recently celebrated their forty years of marriage. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Gary of Mason City; children, Erin Hanson and Robert Hanson, both of Mason City; brother, John Turk and his wife Dorothy of Mason City; cherished friends, Vicki and Kathy “Chaf”, as well as her beloved friends at Bethlehem Lutheran Church; nephews, John Jr. and Karen’s Turk and David and Cassie Turk both of Mason City; John and Karen’s children, Kaitlyn Turk of Cedar Falls, IA and godchildren, Ella Turk of Mason City and David and Cassie’s son, David Turk Jr. of Iowa City, IA.
