Mason City Maureen Pals, age 70, of Mason City, died Sunday, April 4, 2010, at her home. Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Thursday (April 8, 2010) at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 4th Street S.E., with Pastor Paul Nelson officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday (April 7, 2010) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue one hour prior to the church service. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa.
Maureen was born August 17, 1939 on the family farm in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Harry A. and Opal (Brazel) Everhart. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1957. Maureen worked in the Insurance field for many years and most recently worked for the Mason City Shopper with her sister Joann before retiring. Maureen was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and 4-H Club when she was younger. She married Leslie Pals on May 3rd in 1997 at St James Lutheran Church in Mason City IA. Together they enjoyed traveling. Maureen enjoyed spending time with family and friends, quilting, sewing, cooking, gardening, antiquing, collecting pottery and Amish Heirlooms, fixing up her house, taking care of her chickens, being outdoors, watching NASCAR and cheering for the Chicago Cubs. She also enjoyed genealogy. She searched her family tree back 200 years and enjoyed making scrapbooks for the history she discovered. In her younger years, she enjoyed riding her motorcycle, snowmobiling and boating. Maureen was a giving person who was very family oriented. She was considered to be a "people person".
Maureen is survived by her husband: Leslie Pals of Mason City; three children: Lee Toole and wife Jeanine of Council Bluffs, IA, Cindy Tekampe of Kenosha, WI and Steve Toole and wife Peggy of Mason City; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; one sister: Joann Bartusek; three step children: Nancy McLaughlin and husband Phil of Thornton, IA, Jeff Pals and wife Mary of Mason City and Bart Pals and wife Jody of Mason City. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother: Jack Everhart; brother-in-law: Tony Bartusek; niece: Renee Bartusek.
