Maureen S. Leake

MASON CITY: Maureen Leake died peacefully with her husband at her side at Hospice of North Iowa on April 2, 2015 in Mason City, Iowa, at the age of 71. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 7, 2015 with a gathering of friends and family one hour prior to services at First Christian Church, 318 North Adams, Mason City. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery following the Funeral Service. Memorials may be directed to Opportunity Village, 1200 N. 9th St. W Clear Lake, Iowa 50428. Maureen was born on September 5, 1943 in Tama, Iowa to Lawrence and Reva Marlow. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1961. She married Harlan Leake on September 7, 1969 and had four children. Maureen was active in the Boy Scouts of America and ran the local office for several years. She worked at Opportunity Village in Clear Lake, Iowa for 10 years before retiring in 2009. Above all, Maureen was a devoted and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. Her Children remember her as a kind and supportive person who always encouraged them to pursue their dreams. Her love and bond with their father was exceptional and they consider themselves blessed to be raised by her. She loved to crochet dolls, needle point, and paint. She was active with the Iowa Democratic Party. She was an active and dedicated member of the First Christian Church, where she was an elder and served many committees over the years. Maureen was a woman of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of God’s love and the peace and beauty that would await her after her passing. Maureen is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Harlan Leake, her children; Cecil Leake and his wife Angie of Mason City, Iowa; James Leake and his wife Sandra of Mason City, Iowa; and Jennifer Fahlbeck of Saint Johnsbury, Vermont; her grandchildren; Christian Fahlbeck, who always made her “smile,” Julia Fahlbeck, Troilynn Leake, Timmy Leake, and Evelyn Leake; her siblings Marge (Benson), Jean Conrad, James Marlow and wife Connie Marlow, and George Marlow. She is preceded in death by her infant daughter, Jean, her parents Lawrence Marlow and Reva Unger, and her sister Ann Dirks. the family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of North Iowa for their care of Maureen in her final days.
