Maynard Arends, 93, of Mason City, died, Monday October 22, 2018, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient unit.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Saturday October 27, 2018, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N Pennsylvania Ave. with Pastor Dan Carlson – Hanford Community Church officiating.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday October 26, 2018, at Major Erickson Funeral Home.
Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials can be made out to the Maynard Arends Memorial Fund.
The Family would like to thank Angela and Elva with Touched by an Angel and the staff at Hospice of North Iowa for the care given to Maynard.
Maynard Arends was born July 22, 1925, in Shell Rock Iowa to parents John and Hermiene Arends. Growing up in Cartersville and later moving to Nora Springs Maynard attended a country school. Maynard went on to join the United States Army serving in WWII and the Korean War. After being Honorably Discharged from the military Maynard came back to Nora Springs to farm and to work at the cement plant which he did for 31 years. On the 23rd of November in Albert Lea, Minnesota Maynard was united in marriage to Dorothy DeBolt.
Maynard was a very history-oriented person, who loved his horses, was competitive with softball and at the age of 70 he took up the sport of golf.
Maynard is survived by his wife: Dorothy; children: Emily (Louis) Althof, Nancy (Roger) Rheingans; grandchildren: Andrew (Lori) Althof, Katy (Scott) Nelson, Daniel (Maggie) Rheingans, Sarah (Talley) Mason; 15 great grandchildren; sister: Frieda Dow; nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by parents, daughter: Theresa Arends; brother: Henry Arends; sister: Mamie Arends and nephew: Jim Snell.
