Melvin Wilson Jr. 87 of Mason City died Monday, January 28, 2013 at home. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Rev. Duane Miller, Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Association. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at Major Erickson Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Melvin Wilson Jr. Memorial Fund. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com Melvin was born November 1, 1925 in Fertile, Iowa the son of Melvin and Gladys (Jenkins) Wilson. He attended schools in Mason City. Melvin enlisted in the US Navy and served as a cook for 24 years. He retired from the Navy in 1978. Following his retirement, he lived in St. Cloud, Minnesota then moved to Mason City in 1997. In Mason City, he was a driver for North Central Lab for 10 years. Melvin is survived by a niece, Lori Groth (Tom) Tierney of Minnetonka, Minnesota; nephew, Richard (Sharon) Groth) of Mason City; great nieces and nephews, Aron, Christopher, Megan, and Kelsie; great-great nephew, Andrew. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Dale Groth.
