Mildred A. Austin, 80 of Mason City, died , February 26, 2006 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday (March 1, 2006) at Major Erickson Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Healey officiating. Interment will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph?s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue one hour before the service Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Hospice of North Iowa. Mildred was born November 29, 1925 in Rice, Minnesota, the daughter of Benjamin and Anna (Froesh) Deets. In her childhood years, she resided in Rockwell and Rock Falls. She married Clifford A. Austin on June 5, 1949 in Nora Springs. She worked at the Park Hospital, Good Shepherd Health Center, and the Gerard School where she retired in 1987. Mildred enjoyed making quilts, sewing, playing board games and playing her favorite card game ?500.? Mildred?s family was important to her and she especially enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church. Mildred is survived by her children, Vicki Lekwa and husband Rande of Tempe, AZ, Steve Austin and wife Judy of Mason City, Mark Austin and wife Luanne of Mason City, Sue Schultz and husband Mike of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Michelle, Megan, Jesse, Ian, Samaria, Mitchell, Haley, Eric, Sarah, Patrick, Joshua; seven great-grandchildren, Zach, Olivia, Sandra, Cory, Jessica, Brittany, Tyler; sisters, Audrey Hewitt of Nora Springs, Laurine Kressin of Bloomer, WI, Annabelle Christiansen of Nora Springs, sisters-in-law, Janet Deets of Nora Springs, Sadie Deets of Clear Lake, Dorine Deets of Mason City, Audrey Hasapopoulos and husband Ted, Mary Lou Graff and husband Ron, Rosie Austin, Ruby Austin, Leonard Christiansen, and many nieces and nephews. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Austin, parents, two sisters and eight brothers.
