Mildred E. Nowell, 90, of Mason City, died Thursday, October 11, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM, Tuesday, October 16, 2007, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania with Pastor Kathy Graves officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter?s Lutheran Cemetery in rural Coulter, IA. Visitation will be held 1 hour before the service at Trinity Lutheran Church. Memorials may be directed to the Mildred Nowell memorial fund. Mildred was born January 6, 1917 in Coulter, IA the daughter of Walter and Hannah (Jensen) Petersen. She was baptized and confirmed at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Coulter, IA. She attended country schools and graduated from Latimer High School in 1934. After graduation, Mildred attended the Iowa State Teachers College and received her Teaching Certificate. She taught in various country schools in Franklin County. Mildred married Raymond Nowell on June 8, 1945 at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Coulter, IA. After marriage Raymond and Mildred lived in Fairbult, MN and Holdriege, NE, and then moved to Mason City in 1945 after Raymond was honorably discharged from the service. Family was very important to Mildred as was being with her friends. She was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Mildred enjoyed gardening, baking, spending time outdoors, sewing and also traveling the country with her late husband Raymond. Left to cherish her memory are her sisters Helen Haupt of Hampton, IA, and Elaine Egede and husband Halvor of Hampton Iowa; sister in law, Edna Petersen of Latimer, IA; nieces, Joann Haupt and Sharon Ross and husband David; great nieces, Katie and Emily Ross all of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond in 1991; three infant children; brother, Kenneth Petersen; and brother-in-law, Bernard Haupt.
