Mildred Mae Paulson was born in the farm home of her parents, Otto and Esther (Schricker) Paulson in Richland County, Wisconsin on March 27, 1919. She was the second child with five sisters and one brother. She was baptized July 13, 1919 and confirmed September 3, 1933 at Five Points Lutheran Church, rural Richland Center, WI. At the age of 16 she went to Chicago to work. After a few years she moved to Canton, SD and graduated from Augustana Academy. Her next goal was to get into parish work. She attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, MN and graduated from Seattle school in 1950. For the three following years she was a secretary at the Seattle School. She married Ernest Thompson at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church in Seattle, WA on June 5, 1953. They moved to Tacoma, WA and she was church secretary at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Tacoma, during the school year while Ernest completed college studies at Pacific Lutheran College. That summer they moved to St. Paul, MN for Lutheran Seminary. She became a homemaker and did secretary work for Ernie and as needed throughout his ministry for 50 years. As a homemaker, she enjoyed entertaining, baking bread, cookies and pies. She sewed much for herself; and especially enjoyed making quilts for LWR. With five sons there were many school and 4-H activities for parents to attend. Mildred will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
