Mildred E. Matson, 99, of Mason City, died Monday, January 2, 2012 at Good Shepherd Health Center. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, January 7, 2012 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 329 East State Street with Rev. Sid Bohls officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Mildred E. Matson Memorial Fund. Mildred was born August 14, 1912 in rural Fertile, Iowa the daughter of William and Ella (Halverson) Zobel. She graduated from Fertile High School. Mildred married Hans A. Matson January 28, 1930 in Clear Lake. They farmed in the Clear Lake area then moved in town, until moving to Mason City in 1955. Mildred waitressed for several restaurants in Clear Lake, including the Surf Ballroom, Lido Club and the Ritz. She later worked for Avon as a sales representative for 19 years. Mildred was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and church circle. Some of her interests included cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, cards, and entertaining her family. Mildred is survived by her children, Vera (Charles) Walk of Mason City, Ray (Dorothy) Matson of Mason City, Richard (Bonna) Matson of Mason City, and Evelyn Matson-Davis of Altoona; 19 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; brother, Floyd (Lois) Zobel of Lincoln, Nebraska. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, Elsie and Dolly; 5 brothers, Ernest, Leslie, Stanley, Leo, and William; son-in-law, Richard Davis.
