Mildred L.M. Wasson - Kester, 88 of Mason City died Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City. Funeral services for Mildred will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, August 2, 2004 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 100 ? 1st Street NE, Mason City with the Rev. Samuel Hamilton Poore officiating. Interment will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday at Greenwood Cemetery in West Burlington, Iowa with the Pastor Dean Moberg of St. Paul?s United Church of Christ officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM ? 6:00 PM on Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue. Memorials may be given to the First Congregational United Church of Christ. Mildred Landwehr was born April 13, 1916 in Burlington, Iowa the daughter of John J. and Laura M. (Heckenberg) Landwehr. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul?s United Church of Christ in West Burlington. Mildred attended school in Burlington and graduated from Burlington High School. She was united in marriage to Carrol E. Wasson on November 2, 1939 at St. Paul?s United Church of Christ in West Burlington. Mildred worked as a housekeeper for Colonial Apartments, several homes, churches and the high school in Burlington. Mildred was then united in marriage to Warren K. Kester at St. Paul?s United Church of Christ on June 25, 1972. In 1990 Mildred and her husband Warren moved to Mason City. Mildred was a member at St. Paul?s United Church of Christ in West Burlington and First Congregational United Church of Christ in Mason City. She was active in the women?s fellowship circles in both churches and was involved in the Sunday school program at St. Paul?s United Church of Christ. Mildred was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Hawkeye Local 474 in Burlington. Mildred always enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mildred is survived by her two daughters, Roberta M. Wasson of Mason City and Rosella Sutcliffe and husband Jack of Mason City; grandchildren, Diane M. Sutcliffe of Spencer, Iowa, Oscar J. Sutcliffe of Mason City, Monica Hagestad of Missoula, Montana, Christina Nelson and husband Mike of Missoula, Montana; five great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Mary Wasson of Missoula, Montana; step-daughter, Sally Mounce of Charlotte, North Carolina; step-grandchildren, Todd Mounce of Monroe, North Carolina, Julie Whaley and husband Terry of Nakina, North Carolina; and four step-great grandchildren. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Carrol E. Wasson, second husband Warren W. Kester and one son, Ronald C. Wasson.
