Mitchell J. Weiss

Mitchell J. Weiss, 67, of Mason City, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023, at his home.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, December 11, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., at Epiphany Parish St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 5^th Street SE, with Rev. Neil Manternach officiating.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 10, 2023, from 2:00-4:00 p.m., at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania with a Scriptural Wake Service at 3:30 p.m.

Services will be livestreamed on Major Erickson's Facebook Page.

Mitchell James Weiss was born August 18, 1956. He graduated from Newman High School in Mason City.

After various jobs, in 1995, he started his own business as Weiss Construction and was a dedicated woodworker and craftsman. Proud of what he built, he loved working hard and helping others. Most of all he valued family and friends. He was a giver and servant-hearted, without wanting anything in return. He was loved by so many and had a lifetime of accomplishments, including being awarded the title of Life Master in Chess. His kids and grandkids were his joy.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn (DeSmet) Weiss. He is lovingly remembered by daughter, Crystal (Aaron) Olson, grandkids Layton and Lenna; son, Matthew (Kelsey) Weiss, grandkids Lily and Willow; stepdaughter, Megan Hill (Evan Ware), grandson Harrison; stepson, Kevin (Amanda) Hill, grandkids Lincoln and Oliver; sisters, Mary Gee, Josie (Jerry) Kasprzak, Margaret (Ken) Gross, and Christine (Dennis) Hunt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mitch is preceded in death by parents, Riecka (Beer) Weiss and Jacob Weiss; sister, Jane (Weiss) and her husband Gary Ginapp;  and niece Laura Gross.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made in memory of Mitch Weiss to Mayo Clinic. Donations will be contributed to the Poverello Fund for assisting patients in financing their medical care.
