Myrtle Corrien Banken

March 24, 1917 — December 3, 2008

Myrtle C. Banken, 91, died Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday (December 6, 2008) at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Pastor Steve Palo officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and also one hour prior to the service at the church.

Myrtle Corrien Banken was born March 24, 1917 in rural Northwood, Iowa the daughter of Martin and Carrie (Bergo) Stromley. She attended school in Northwood. She was married to Ole T. Banken on October 13, 1941 in Reno, NV. They moved to Mason City in 1948. In 1951 she went to work for the Armour Co. where she worked for 24 years until her retirement in 1975.

Myrtle had a passion for gardening, where she grew vegetables and flowers. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, shopping and also making quilts for her family. Myrtle was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking and cooking for her family. Her family was very important to her and she enjoyed spending time with them.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her children, Marvin Banken and wife Kathy of Mason City, Janice Kothenbeutel of Mason City, Linda Coonrod and husband Gerald of Northwood and Dennis Banken and wife Christie of Joice; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Inborg Peterson and Ruby Stromley; two brothers, Ansley Stromley, Kenneth Stromley; and one infant daughter, Carol Banken.
