PORT ISABEL, TEXAS: Ned Ignatius Snyder, 81, of Port Isabel, formerly of Mason City, died Thursday, October 13, 2011 at home. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday at the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 1311 2nd Street SW, Mason City with Rev. Joseph Mirowski officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Tuesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. A Trisagion Prayer Service will be held at 6:00 PM at Major Erickson Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church or Odyssey Hospice of Harlingen, Texas.
Ned was born March 5, 1930 in Mason City the son of Carl and Laura (Lotze) Snyder. He was raised in Mason City, attended high school in Denver, Colorado then attended Iowa State University and the University of Iowa. He was united in marriage to Jean Yanick in 1953. He and Jean had seven children together. He served in the US Air Force and Army for 3 years during the Korean War attaining the rank of Sgt. Ned joined forces with good friends and associates to form Snyder Pappajohn Insurance Agency in Mason City. He worked as an insurance agent for 43 years. He was a member of the Independent Insurance Agents of Iowa and served as its president. He loved hunting, fishing, skiing, traveling and was an avid reader. He enjoyed nature and was active in and a member of Ducks Unlimited. He was happily joined in marriage in 1989 with Joanne Rosenfeld. With that union brought three step-children to the family. He was a happy, jovial and fun loving man. The family is blessed to have had a wonderful husband and father. He was a great example of a human being. His grace, his love without limits and his great sense of humor will never be forgotten. Ned was a member of the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church.
Ned is survived by his wife, Joanne of Port Isabel, Texas; 7 children, Christine (Ron) Short, Diane Snyder, Scott (Kelli) Snyder, Stephen Snyder, Carl (Sandi) Snyder, Garrett (Ceci) Snyder, and Marc (Pam) Snyder; 3 step-children, Stephan (Stephanie) Rosenfeld, John (Cherish) Rosenfeld, and Ann Klug; 17 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis (Gilbert) Egbert.
Ned was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Laura Snyder.
