Norma ?Sam? J. Petersen, 72, of Mason City, died Thursday, April 12, 2007 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, April 16, 2007 at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 4th St. S.E., with Pastor Paul Nelson officiating. Visitation will be from 4PM to 7:00 PM, Sunday, April 15, 2007 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Memorials may be directed to the Norma ?Sam? J. Petersen Memorial Fund, which will be an endowment for the Mason City Public Library. Norma J. Mattson was born May 13, 1934 in Kewaunee, Wisconsin, the daughter of Harold G. and Queenie M. (Jury) Mattson. She worked at Curries as a steel buyer for 22 years before retiring. Sam enjoyed gardening, reading, knitting and listening to music. She loved to walk and watch CNN and FOX News. Her dogs, Mickie & Boo were very important to her. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and also had volunteered in the surgical waiting room at Mercy Medical Center. Sam was a woman of the world. Sam is survived by her children: Jeanine Marsters and her husband Jeff of Mason City, Gregg Mahalich and wife Teri of Minnetonka, MN, Freda Carlson and her husband Keith of Esko, MN, Grandchildren: Jennifer Guyer and husband Jay of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Justin Marsters and wife Meghan of Coon Rapids, MN, Andrea Mahalich and Michael Mahalich, both of Minnetonka, MN, and Darrin Carlson of Minneapolis, MN; one brother: David Mattson and wife Joyce of Cape Coral, FL; two sisters: Helen ?Cookie? Heminger of Manly, IA and Lois Fingelsen and husband Gary of Rock Falls; Many nieces and nephews: Jimmie, Mary and Linda Mattson, Patti Sawyer and husband Steve, Karyn Torkelson and partner Sue, and Robert Klinke and wife Monica; great nieces and nephews: Persis Sawyer, Liz and RJ Klinke, Tanner and Nate Hennen; ex-husband and friend: E.G. Petersen. Norma was preceded in death by her parents; a son: Michael Joseph Mahalich, husband Joseph Mahalich. nephew: Steve Mattson, and friend: Richard.
