Mason City Opal M. Elliott, 97, of Mason City, died Sunday, February 15, 2009 at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at Memorial Park Cemetery, with Pastor Kent A. Mechler, Chaplain Good Shepherd, officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa or the Good Shepherd Health Center.\r\n
Opal was born May 27, 1911 in Moorhead, MN, the daughter of Louis and Jessie (Keller) Swanson. She attended school in Moorhead. In 1936, she moved to Mason City. She married George R. Elliott in 1945. She worked for the Independent Medical Surgical Group as a Lab Assistant for over 30 years. She attended the First Christian Church and was a member of the Women of the Moose. She loved animals. Opal enjoyed craft work, reading, grocery shopping, and making apple pie.\r\n
She is survived by one niece: Beverly Breitbarth of Austin, MN. She is also survived by her best friend: Linda Wendel of Mason City and nieces and nephews.\r\n
She was preceded in death by her husband George in 1987, her parents, her brother: Loren E. Swanson, 5 half sisters, 1 half brother, nephew-in-law: Robert Breitbarth; her favorite nephew: Barry Breitbarth and other nieces and nephews.\r\n
