Palmer A. “Paul” Sabin, 76, of Mason City, died peacefully on Sunday, June 10, 2012, at his home, surrounded by loved ones. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, June 15, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Rev. Dan Gerrietts officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday (June 14, 2012) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Paul Sabin Memorial Fund for distribution to the North Iowa Hospice and Trinity Lutheran Church. Paul was born on February 18, 1936, in Bricelyn, Minnesota. He was the son of Arthur C. and Eliza (Rake) Sabin. He lived in Bricelyn and Albert Lea, Minnesota before moving to Manly, Iowa, where he graduated from high school in 1954. He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Margaret Petersen, on June 17, 1956. To this union, three children were born. Paul attended Mason City Junior College before starting in the Traffic Department with Allied Mills in Mason City, Iowa. He served his country for eight years in the National Guard. In 1960 he was recruited to Ralston Purina, where he continued his career in Traffic. In 1967, he went to the Wayne Feeds Division of Continental Grain as a management trainee in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Over the next nineteen years he worked in various locations, retiring in December of 1995 as the Executive Vice President of Operations in Chicago, Illinois. At that point Paul and Margaret returned to Mason City, where they have since enjoyed their retirement. Paul was an avid golfer who enjoyed socializing with friends at the mall and being a member of the River City Barbershop Chorus. He most enjoyed his daily walks with Margaret and spending time with his grandchildren. Paul was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City, Iowa. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, and children Steven (Travis Abernathy) Sabin, Scott (Jennifer) Sabin, and Julie Hurley, as well as special family member Kay (Gary) Kinkel. He is the beloved “Papa” to seven grandchildren: Meghan (David) Hammond; Claire, Maxwell, Andrew, and Olivia Sabin; and Tristan and Grayson Hurley. He is also survived by siblings Duane (Sharon) Sabin, Gloria (Jack) Reindl, David (Gloria) Sabin, Mark (Linda) Sabin, and Dan (Colleen Rhodes) Sabin, as well as his sister-in-law Pauline (Wesley) Bahnsen and brothers-in-law John (Joann) Petersen, Marvin (Anita) Petersen, and Thomas Petersen, in addition to numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law Sonke and Tillie Petersen, and sister and brother-in-law Mary Louise and Marvin Byington.
