Pearl V Fisher

Pearl V. Fisher, 99, of 302 2nd St. NE, died Wednesday, June 22, 2005, at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday at Grace United Methodist Church, 200 14th St. NW, with Rev. Bill Poland officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue one hour before services Monday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Pearl V. Fisher Memorial Fund. Pearl was born June 23, 1905 in Boone, Iowa the daughter of Herman and Mary Ann (Ambs) Scherping. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1923. Pearl married William R. ?Jack? Fisher June 21, 1928 in Boone. Pearl worked as a registered nurse, graduating in 1926 from St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing. She worked as an RN in Mason City for 50 years. She was the city nurse of Mason City, worked at the Park Hospital and at age 61 attended the University of Iowa to further her education to assist in opening the cardiac care unit at Park Hospital. She also worked for Dr. Sartor as his office nurse. Pearl was the oldest living graduate of the St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing prior to her death. She attended the annual reunions well into her 90?s. Pearl was a member for many years of the 10th District Nurses Association and a former long time member of the Queen Rebekah Lodge. The center of Pearl?s life was her family, particularly her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Pearl enjoyed traveling to many places in the world, spending time at her cottage in Clear Lake and the years of doing many different things with her two sisters. Crocheting and knitting were other leisure activities she enjoyed. Pearl was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and had attended church there most of her life. Pearl is survived by a son, Jack Fisher and wife Mary Jo of Mason City; grandchildren, William Fisher and wife Ann of Mason City, Kathy Alscher and husband Phillip of Mason City, Robert Fisher of Mason City; great grandchildren, Ross Fisher, Brian Fisher, David Alscher and Sara Alscher all of Mason City; sister, June Stone of German Valley, Illinois; many nieces and nephews. Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jack in 1950; sister, Florence Hansen.
