Penelope "Penny" Bakehouse

Mason City

Penelope M. Bakehouse, 77, of Mason City, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at the Good Shepherd Health Center surrounded by family. A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, from 3 to 5 p.m., at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania. Penny will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery. 

Memorials may be directed to the family of Penny Bakehouse. 

Penelope Marie Bakehouse was born on November 19, 1946, to parents William and Bonnie (Robison) Boeshart in Garner, Iowa. Penny graduated from Ventura High School in 1964. On May 28, 1969, Penny was united in marriage to John Carl Bakehouse in Rock Island, IL. To this union, the couple were blessed with three children. 

 Penny was a graduate of St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Rochester, MN. Shortly after graduation, she became a Registered Nurse. Penny worked for the Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health for 26 years until her retirement. 

In her free time, Penny enjoyed spending time with her friends. She did a variety of things with her friend group that often kept her busy. She enjoyed going out to eat, casino trips, shopping, and girls’ trips. She spoke highly of her friends and thoroughly enjoyed her time with them.

Penny will forever be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She cherished time spent with her grandchildren, and enjoyed being an active member of the community, extending a helping hand and assisting those in need. She was very welcoming to everyone and enjoyed meeting new people along the way. Penny will be deeply missed by those who knew her and loved her.

Penny is survived by her husband, John Bakehouse; three children, Joshua (Rebecca) Bakehouse, Sarah (Brice) Barber, and Andrew Bakehouse; grandchildren, Cait (Joseph) Murphy, Izzy Bakehouse, William Barber and Henry Barber; brothers, Fletcher (Carol) Boeshart and Tom (Flora) Boeshart; sister, Lori Harmon; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Penny was preceded in death by her parents, William and Bonnie; and her parents-in-law, Harold and Gretchen Bakehouse.
