Phyllis E. Solony, 77, of Clear Lake, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at her daughters home in Mason City. Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M., on Saturday, February 19, 2011, at Riverside Friends Church, 527 North Kentucky Avenue, with Pastor Paul Martin and Major Vickie Cole (Salvation Army) officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM 8:00 PM on Friday, (February 18, 2011) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue. Inurnment will be at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Riverside Friends Church, 527 North Kentucky Avenue, Mason City, IA 50401 or The Community Kitchen Center, 606 North Monroe, Mason City, IA 50401. Phyllis was born March 24, 1933 to Henry and Mabel Martin in Hagerstown, MD. Phyllis was a member of Riverside Friends Church. According to her wishes she will be cremated. In her life time Phyllis was a prayer line volunteer for KJLY, Blue Earth, MN. She also volunteered in the Iowa Literacy Program teaching adults to read. She was also involved with the Kids at Risk program in assisting young people thru developing good work habits. Through her employment at The Salvation Army Thrift Store as manager, she had a ministry with the many homeless men and women passing through. Surviving are her children, Jan Sensenbaugh Hagerstown, MD, Phillip Smith (Brenda) Conover, N.C., Fred Solony (Nancy Wolf), Mason City, IA, Michael Solony Los Cruses, NM, Tonya Carlson (Alan), Duluth, MN, Penny Gourley (Tracy) Mason City, IA and her faithful canine friend Gracie. One sister, Jean Sword, Williamsport, MD and one brother, Phillip Martin (Jeanette) Goodyear, AZ. Seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her parents Henry and Mabel Martin, infant daughter Jenny Sue Solony and son-in-law Joseph Sensenbaugh.
