Rachel Marie Djuren

Rachel Marie Djuren, 91, of Mason City, died Sunday, March 2, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa.  Memorial Services will be held at 12:00 P.M. Tuesday (March 4, 2008) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. with Rev. Kathy Graves of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating.  A gathering of friends and family will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Inurnment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.  Memorials may be directed to the Rachel M. Djuren Memorial Fund. Rachel Marie Djuren was born, July 14, 1916 in Northwood, Iowa the daughter of Ole and Ragna (Nelson) Kjerland.  She was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood. She graduated form Northwood High School in 1934 and then attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City and worked for Gilpin Realty in Northwood.  She moved to Mason City when she married Elwood Lefty Detra.  After his death, she worked for Kramers Hathchery.  She was then married to Alec Bud Djuren and she later worked at Buds Hydraulic Shop.  She enjoyed craft work, crocheting, gardening, and taking bus trips.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great- grandchildren during the holidays. She had a good friend in Randy Hill who helped with household chores and she loved their talks sitting around the dining room table. Rachel is survived by her grandchildren, Steven McReynolds of Duluth, MN, Sue Kent and husband Tim of Minnetonka, MN; great grandchildren, Danny and Kendall M. Kent of Minnetonka, MN; sister, Doris Lumley of Mason City; many special friends and neighbors;and nieces and nephews.   She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Elwood Lefty Detra and Alec Bud Djuren; daughter, Sharon McReynolds; brothers, Harold Kjerland, Merlin Kjerland, Reginald Kjerland and Donald Kjerland.
