Raymond J. Nedved, 89, of Mason City, IA, died Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at the Heritage Care and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, October 2, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Pastor Kathy Graves officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Sunday, October 1, 2017, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Interment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Association. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1730 28th Street, West Des Moines, IA 50266, North Iowa Vocational Center, 1225 S. Harrison Avenue, Mason City, IA, or Trinity Lutheran Church.
Raymond James was born October 30, 1927, in Liberty Township, Britt, IA, the son of James and Christina (Wellik) Nedved. He attended Garner schools. In 1951, Raymond enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge in 1952. On November 13, 1952, Raymond was united in marriage to Beverly Ann Brighton in Forest City, IA. He worked for Gibbs Cook Caterpillar as a Diesel Mechanic and North Iowa Area Community College as a Diesel and Hydraulics Instructor until his retirement in 1988. Raymond enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and fixing lawnmowers, snow blowers & small engines. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the United Commercial Travelers of America.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 64 years: Beverly Nedved of Mason City; 4 children: Daniel Nedved of Mason City, Cheryl Mejia and husband Roberto of Phenix City, AL, Denise Surat and husband James of Mason City and Stacey Wood and husband Doug of Mason City; 10 grandchildren: Eric Mejia and wife Kellie, Jon Mejia and wife Ivory, Matthew Mejia, Heather Hermanson and husband Scott, Christine Collins and husband Rich, Joseph Goodnow and wife Alexandra, Andy Surat and wife Becky, Erin Street and husband Adam, Parker Wood and Mackenzie Wood; 14 great grandchildren: Caiden, Camdyn, Mason, Gavin, Lauren, Teddy, Keegan, Dylan, Kellen, Caleb, Lenna, Lyana, Colby and Toby; and 3 sisters: Margaret Nelson, Rose Dornbier and Teresa Leerar and numerous nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister: Evelyn Curtis.
