Richard A. Torgeson, 76, of Plymouth, died Thursday, August 21, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. Upon Richards wishes he was cremated, those wishing to visit with the family can attend an open house in Richards memory at the Plymouth Town Hall on Saturday, August 23, 2008 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. Memorials may be directed to the Richard A. Torgeson memorial fund in care of the family, P.O. Box 234 Plymouth, IA 50464.
Richard Arlen Torgeson was born March 23, 1932 in Deer Creek, IA the son of Albert and Eva (DeMaris) Torgeson. He graduated from Plymouth High School in 1951. After graduation he enlisted in the Navy in 1951, he served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1955. After returning from the service he was married to Beverly M. Bowers on September 11, 1955 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Richard and his wife Beverly have lived most of their lives in Plymouth. Richards proudest accomplishment was he built the house that his wife and he have shared for so many years. Richard worked as a journeyman electrician for Dewey Electric for 35 years before retiring in 1994. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and also a member of IBEW Local 288, he also served many terms on the Plymouth City Council. In his free time he enjoyed fishing and hunting, and also traveling with his wife Beverly.

Richard is survived by his wife Beverly of Plymouth; two sons, Dennis Torgeson and wife Patricia of Mason City and Mark Torgeson and wife Jean of Manly; daughter, Janice Berge and husband Randy of Woden, IA; five grandchildren, Shannon and Neil Westrum of Joice, IA, Sarah and Tim Ressler of Mason City, Stephanie Massawe of Mason City, Abra and Lance of Waverly and A.J. Workman of Des Moines; two great grandchildren, Austin Massawe and Zackary Christians; and one sister, Terry Beavers of Mason City.
He is preceded in death by his daughters, Karen Torgeson and Susan Trytten; brothers, Gary and George Torgeson.
