Richard C. Collins, 75, of Mason City, died Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Memorial services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, December 8, 2012, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Pastor Paul C. Nelson of St. James Lutheran Church officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Richard Collins memorial fund, in care of the family. Richard was born March 2, 1937, in Colfax, IL, the son of Maynard and Mary Ellen (Jones) Collins. He graduated from Swaledale High School in 1956, and continued his education at a Des Moines Technical School (Heating and Air). On March 12, 1961, Richard married Margaret “Cookie” Kentner at the First United Methodist Church in Mason City. He worked as a technician for Ray Pauley Company for over 35 years before his retirement in 1999. Richard was a member of St. James Lutheran Church. He was also a lifetime member of The Old Northwest Historical Society. Richard enjoyed attending Rendezvous’ – where he would spend time perfecting his Blacksmith techniques. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and Indian culture. Richard is survived by his wife of 51 years: Margaret “Cookie” Collins of Mason City; and one brother: Raymond Collins and wife Linda of Mason City. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two nephews: Shane and Brendon Collins.
