Richard Rich Schriver was born on May 26, 1931, in Mason City, the son of Dale and Lucille (Long) Schriver. He received his education in Mason City schools, graduating from Mason City High School class of 1949. Rich was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church and was a long time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church here in Mason City. He had a very good bass voice, sang in the choir for many years and worked on property committee projects. On July 10, 1954, Richard and Carlyn (Steltzner) Schriver were married at the First Methodist Church in Rice Lake, WI. They have one son, Kirk Schriver. At the age of 16, Rich enlisted in the Iowa National Guard, rose through the ranks and was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in May of 1959 after graduating from OCS in Ft. Benning, GA. He was the first Iowa Guardsman to graduate from Ft. Benning OCS. He was proud to have been the first company commander of the 1133rd Transportation Company. He then served on the staff at Camp Dodge until he retired in March of 1973 to devote more time to his business. Rich and two partners started North Iowa Plastering Co. in 1962. He later became sole owner and operated the business until his retirement in 1999. He liked to reminisce about some of the challenges he encountered in those years and especially the restoration of the Johnson County Court House. A life long outdoorsman, he loved to hunt and fish and particularly enjoyed his hunting/fishing trips to Alaska with his boyhood friend, Bill Krager. He was a member of the River City Rifle & Pistol Club and the NRA. In retirement Rich enjoyed morning coffee at Pros, traveling with Carlyn, winters in Florida, reading WWII history and spending time with his granddaughters. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife: Carlyn Schriver of Mason City; son: Kirk Schriver of Mason City; two granddaughters: Mandy (William) Schmidt and Megan Schriver; aunt: Arlene Higgins; his cousin/son: Jerome Myers; nephews: Douglas and David Donovan; and his sisters-in-law: Marjorie Davis and Betty Steltzner. He is also survived by many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, sister: Marilyn Donovan; and niece: Deb Polton.
