Richard Dick L. Ebeling, 58, of Mason City, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, May 18, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church, 119 South Georgia, with the Rev. Jim Stiles officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date. A gathering of friends and family will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Ave. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church, Hospice of North Iowa, or the Ventura Gun Club.
Dick was born on April 17, 1951 in Mason City, the son of Leo John and Lucille Barbara (Watson) Ebeling. He graduated from Newman High School in 1969 and also attended the North Iowa Area Community College. He worked for Curries from 1969 until early 2008. During those many years Dick worked in various capacities, from plant floor, to sales, then finally Communications Manager until he was no longer able to work due to his cancer illness. He was united in marriage to Julie (Nielsen) Langhoff on May 16, 1993, at First United Methodist Church in Mason City. In the past, Dick competed in dog trials and continued to brilliantly train his Labradors. Dick loved the outdoors; hunting and fishing were his passion. He enjoyed spending time at their cottage on Clear Lake. Dick was a member of the Ventura Golf Club and also shot sporting clays at every opportunity. He was a fantastic cook and enjoyed cooking and gardening with his wife, Julie, and was most particular about nurturing home grown tomatoes every summer. He loved being around his family and friends and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Julie E.L. Ebeling of Mason City; children, Tamie Ames and husband Monte, Ben Ebeling and wife Kasie, Sara Peterson and husband Kyle, all of Mason City; step-son, Jake Langhoff (Lisa Blinkmann) of Rochester; grandchildren, Mikayla Ferch and Kaiden Ames; mother and father-in-law, Darrell and Judy Nielsen of Mason City; brother, John Ebeling and wife Jeanette of Clear Lake; brother-in-law, Dave Johnson and fiance Barb Wolner of Victoria, Minnesota; Jim Nielsen and wife Debbie of Muskegon, Michigan; sister-in-law, Kris Corl and husband, Tom of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; many cousins, nieces and nephews; loving pets, Teyha, Bailey and granddogs, Eddie, Gunner and Jack.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Jane Johnson.
