Richard Douglas Eppens

Richard Douglas Eppens, 75, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at his home.

Richard was born March 9, 1942 the son of Gerald and Beulah Mae (Bailey) Eppens in Mason City, Iowa. He was a member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church. On June 17, 1982 Richard was united in marriage to Barbara Anne (Banks) Saewert, the couple shared 35 years together.

Richard loved to tinker and work on numerous projects at once, always keeping himself busy and making sure his things were well kept. He enjoyed manicuring his lawn and home. Richard knew no stranger; he was willing to visit with anyone, anytime especially about fishing. He was an avid angler and truly loved to be on the water.

Those thankful for having shared in Richard’s life include his wife, Barbara Anne; children, Rhonda Lee, Allan (Paula) Eppens, Julie Eppens; step children, Mary (Robert) Austin, Matthew (Annette) Saewert; sister, Glenda (Jim) Johnson; brother, Danny Eppens; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gary Eppens.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City. Richard and Barbara’s nitch is overlooking the pond in the southwest part of the cemetery. Please remember Richard with a smile and a joyful memory of the times you spent with him.
