Mason City ? Richard A. Pope, 73 of Mason City died Sunday, January 1, 2006 at the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30A.M., Thursday, January 5, 2006 at Our Saviour?s Lutheran Church, 2502 South Jefferson Avenue with Rev. Joel Dahlen officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 P.M. on Wednesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted at the gravesite by the Mason City Veteran?s Memorial Association. Memorials may be directed to Our Saviour?s Lutheran Church. Richard A. Pope was born October 26, 1932 the son of Edward E. and Ruth (Grover) Pope in Mason City. He attended school in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School. Richard served his country in the United States Navy in Korea and was honorably discharged on September 22, 1955. He was united in marriage to Rachel A. Katter on June 27, 1954 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mason City. Richard worked for Prichard Motors for a short time before working for Wards for five years. He then began working as an appliance repairman for Sears and did so for twenty-eight years retiring on November 1, 1990. Richard was a member of Our Saviour?s Lutheran Church, the V.F.W. and a former member of the Moose Lodge. Richard enjoyed being outdoors and loved fishing and camping, he also enjoyed dancing at the VFW Hall. Family was also at the center of Richard?s life, he cherished the time he spent with them. Richard is survived by his wife, Rachel Pope of Mason City; sons, Daniel Pope of Mason City, David Pope and wife Kristie also of Mason City; grandchildren, Heather, Ryan and Allison; one brother, Edward Pope and wife Valene of Santa Rosa, California and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Ruth Pope.
