MASON CITY: Robert D. Beek Sr., 71, of Mason City, died Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, December 30, 2013 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Rev. Paul Collier, First Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon Monday till time of service. Memorials may be directed to the Robert D. Beek Sr. Memorial Fund. Robert was born April 29, 1942 in Mason City the son of John and Eveline (Hayes) Beek. He married Sharon Springer December 7, 1968 in Mason City. Robert worked maintenance at the Holiday Motor Lodge in Clear Lake and cleaned at the Waterfront Restaurant. He then worked for the City of Clear Lake in the Sanitation Department then for Keith’s Sanitation from where he retired. Robert loved watching western movies, especially Gunsmoke. A few of his interests included traveling, Muddy Pond CB Club, tinkering with scrape metal, casinos, his grandchildren, and his red Nova. Robert is survived by his wife, Sharon of Mason City; 4 daughters, MaryAnn Beek and fiancé Daniel Schaer Sr. of Mason City, Louann Christiansen and fiancé Don Parker of Clear Lake, Robin Beek of Clear Lake, and Arlene Harnish and special friend David Hansen of Mason City; 1 son, Robert Beek Jr. of Mason City; step-son, Richard Sigler of Mason City; 14 grandchildren; 4 great great-grandchildren; sister, Janet Sly of Burlington, Iowa. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Gerald and Jack; 2 sisters, Lois and Edna.
