Robert P. Hentges, 87, of 4 ? 3rd Street NW, died Saturday, June 03, 2006 at the Good Shepherd Health Center. A funeral mass will be held 10:30 AM Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams with Rev. Jon Seda officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Alta Vista. Military rites will be conducted by the Paul Johann VFW Post #4069. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. A scriptural wake service will be held at 6:30 PM with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 PM. Memorials may be given to the Robert P. Hentges Memorial Fund. Bob was born March 25, 1919 in Alta Vista, Iowa the son of Peter and Susan (Lentz) Hentges. He attended school through the 11th grade in Alta Vista then graduated from Charles City Immaculate Conception High School. Bob served with the US Army during W.W. II. He married Mercedes M. Kramer February 6, 1946 in Alta Vista. They moved to Mason City in 1949. Bob worked for the Mason City Globe Gazette for 19 years. He then worked as a District Supervisor for the State of Iowa, Department of Corrections. He retired from that position in 1981. Bob was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 3rd and 4th Degree, 20 year member of SCORE and a life member of the VFW. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, reading the paper and sports, especially the Minnesota Twins. Bob is survived by his wife, Mercedes M. Hentges of Mason City; sons, James ?Jim? Hentges and wife Vickie of Mason City, John ?Jack? Hentges and Debbie Woodliff of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Allison Antes and husband Michael, Melissa Hentges and fiancé Ben Swyter, Benjamin Hentges; great- granddaughter, Lauren Antes; brothers, Clem Hentges and wife Lillian of Fort Dodge, Paul Hentges and wife Burta of Alta Vista, sisters, Maxine Neuhauser of Rancho Santa Margarita, California, Marilu Pospichal and husband Jerry of Riceville and several nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers, Clifford, Elroy and Reynold.
