Online condolences may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com Rod was born Jan 29, 1965 in Fort Dodge Iowa to Maynard and Darlene Skadburg. They moved to Mason City in 1978. He graduated from MCHS in 1983 and attended college at UNI. He was married to Laurie Peterson in 1984 and their son Shawn Edward was born 11/25/88. Rod worked at River City Communications as a security and fire system installer and through that work, he met his second wife, Michelle. They married June 23, 2000 and he proudly took on the role of stepfather to Michael, Katie and Jacob and adopted Michael in 2001. Rod was a devoted father, loving husband and a brand new grandfather to Landon Michael born in December 2011. He was a true and loyal kind of guy – always there for you and always willing to help. You could always count on him to be honest and tell it like it is, but you can also count on his sarcasm and wit to come shining through. He was the guy who brought the laughs to the party and was full of stories. Rod endured many years of illness with a determination and positive attitude that we all can admire and learn from. After a kidney transplant in 2008, he gave his life to Christ and learned to trust and believe in God’s plan for him. His life was a testimony to God’s love for us as he was brought through many situations and health scares by nothing other than God’s will and intervention. As his body grew tired of fighting, God took him home. You can bet if there are golf courses and white sandy beaches in heaven - that is where he is today. Rod was surrounded by faithful friends and family of which he was extremely honored to have in his life and he will always be remembered in our hearts. Left to remember him are his wife, Michelle Skadburg; his children, Shawn Skadburg of Cedar Falls, IA; Katie Lee of Clear Lake, IA and Jacob Lee of Mason City, IA; Grandchild, Landon Michael Simmer of Clear Lake, IA. Mother, Darlene Skadburg of Mason City; Sister, Deb Francis of Mason City IA; Brother, Jerry (Marla) Skadburg of Sioux City, IA; Nephew, Jess (Nikki) Skadburg of Minneapolis, MN; Michelle’s grandmother, Jean Stone of Mason City IA; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, Maynard Skadburg; son, Michael Skadburg and mother in law, Barb Haffner.
