Roger Duane Ennis was born at home on February 13, 1934, in Mason City, Iowa, son of Harold and Lila (Comstock) Ennis. He grew up in Mason City, attending Mason City schools and graduating with the class of 1952 from Mason City High School.
On June 27, 1953, he married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Wessels, at Central Lutheran Church (now St. Paul Lutheran Church) in Mason City, Iowa. Shortly afterward, he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict serving as a Medical Records Specialist in Missouri and Germany. He was proud of the years serving in the U.S. Army.
After his honorable discharge, Roger came back to North Iowa working for Eastern Iowa Breeders, Cerro Gordo Breeders Coop. and a Territory Manager for Clay Equipment Corp. He served on the board of directors for Midland Coop., Mason City, Iowa, and Clay Equipment, Cedar Falls, Iowa. There were many farmers and dealers who were very special to him. His love of traveling in Germany took him and Beverly back to Germany and Europe four times. They had trips to Hawaii, Alaska, and cruises through the Panama Canal and in the Caribbean.
They enjoyed family camping, and after retiring in 1991, they spent 20 winters enjoying the Arizona sun at the RV Park in Sun City, AZ. They met so many good friends from all over the U.S. and foreign countries. Just anywhere over many years, he could meet someone he knew. His home and yard were always his pride and joy. He enjoyed riding his bicycle at home and in Arizona. His hobby was photography after buying his first camera in Germany. He took many pictures and slides for Clay Equipment, family, and friends’ weddings. He enjoyed visiting with friends and family, spending time with them, and watching sports.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Mason City, Iowa, and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mason City, Iowa.
Roger is survived by his two children, Sue (Steve) Kruckenberg, Sheffield, Iowa and Rick (Kathy) Ennis, Ames, Iowa; also surviving are his four grandchildren, Kara (Tom) Shreckengost, Sheffield, Iowa, Ben (Sara) Kruckenberg, Madrid, Iowa, Clark (Rachel) Ennis, North Bend, Washington, Sam (fiancée, Maia Palma) Ennis, Chicago, Illinois; and great grandchildren, Caleb, Kellen, Tanner (Jessica), Grace (Parker), Kyle, Sawyer, Conner Bryce, and Tayla; two great-great grandchildren, Tobias and Madalen; sister-in-law, Joyce Ennis; and nieces and nephews.
