Roger P. Holcomb, 79, of Mason City, died Thursday, January 10, 2013 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 12, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with Pastor Dan Gerrietts officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Association. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue at the church one hour before services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Roger Holcomb Memorial Fund. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com. Roger was born October 8, 1933 in rural Swea City, Iowa the son of Philip and Emma (Lofstrom) Holcomb. He graduated from Swea City High School in 1951. He would go on to attend Iowa State University and graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree and later his Masters’ of Science degree. Roger married Donna Lemke November 26, 1955 at East Chain Lutheran Church in East Chain, Minnesota. They moved to the Los Angeles, California area returning to Mason City in 1960. He enlisted in the US Army in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1957. Roger taught school at Plymouth High School, now Central Springs, and later at Mason City High School. Roger retired in1996 as the Director of Community Education at North Iowa Area Community College. He worked at NIACC for 30 years. Roger was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he ushered for many years, and the Mason City Rotary Club. He served on a number of boards including the American Cancer Society, Iowa Association of Lifelong Learning, Iowa Vocational Association, and the Deans and Directors of Iowa Community Colleges. Roger is survived by his wife, Donna of Mason City; daughters, Anita (Steve) Stilwell of Hudson, Wisconsin, and Nancy (Steve) Lind of Cedar Falls, Iowa; grandchildren, Stephanie Stilwell of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Zachary Stilwell of Hudson, Wisconsin, Tyler Lind of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Brittany Lind of Cedar Fall, Iowa; many nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Emma Lofstrom Holcomb; step-mother, Emma Nelson Holcomb; brothers and sisters, Martha Wallentine, Myrtle Larsen, Martin Holcomb, Miriam Holcomb, Merle Holcomb, Reuben Holcomb, and Gordon Holcomb.
