MASON CITY: Roger W. VanderPloeg, 76, of Mason City, died Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Praise Community Church, 11 2nd Street NW with Pastor Jeff Dahlin officiating. Private family graveside services will take place Saturday in Evergreen Cemetery, Britt. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. There will be no visitation at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Roger W. VanderPloeg Memorial Fund. Roger was born April 2, 1938 in Forest City, Iowa the son of Sam and Martha (Whitney) VanderPloeg. He graduated from Britt High School in 1956 then attended Trinity Bible College in Chicago, Illinois. Roger married Marilyn Selin April 11, 1959 in Britt. Roger was a long-time dairy farmer in Hancock County. He was active in several farm organizations, and in county and state fairs. He was an avid gardener and Master poultry breeder and exhibitor. Roger was a member of Praise Community Church in Mason City. His personal relationship with Jesus Christ inspired him to be actively involved in many Christian ministries. Roger is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Mason City; children and grandchildren, Marlys (Curt) Schwaderer of Superior, Montana and Nicholas and Michael; Judith (CR) Rush of Chandler, Texas; Linda (Mark) Henderson of Blaine, Minnesota; Todd (Kathy) VanderPloeg of Superior, Montana and Jessica, Chris, Jon, Jordan, Danielle and Hannah; Mark (KarrieJo) VanderPloeg of Clear Lake and Elizabeth, Alex, Emily, Mikayla and Kaitlyn; Brian (Heather) VanderPloeg of Mason City and Colton, Taylor and Justin; special nephew, Shawn (Melissa) VanderPloeg of Columbia, Missouri and Heath and Carmen; brothers, Vance (Gail) VanderPloeg of Greybull, Wyoming, Robert (Lawana) VanderPloeg of Blanchard, Oklahoma; sister, Mary Beth (Wayne) Fleis of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; 3 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Roger was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Roger Lee Rush.
