Ronald H. Peterson, 85, of Fort Dodge, IA and formerly of Mason City, IA, died Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at Unity Point Health – Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue – Mason City, with Rev. Michael A. Carmody of New Covenant Christian Church – Fort Dodge officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. Military Honors will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Association. Memorials may be directed to the Ronald Peterson memorial fund in care of the family.
Ronald was born August 8, 1931, in rural Joyce, IA, the son of Lewis and Ellen (Rierson) Peterson. He graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War until his honorable discharge. Ronald was united in marriage to Jane Stenzel on December 2, 1961, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Rockwell, IA. He worked construction for many years (Davey and Moen Construction Company and Michael Dennis Construction) until his retirement in 1993. Ronald enjoyed playing scrabble and cribbage. He also enjoyed cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Vikings and the Minnesota Twins. He was a longtime friend of the First Church of the Nazarene in Mason City and New Covenant Christian Church in Fort Dodge.
Ronald is survived by his wife of 55 years: Jane Peterson of Fort Dodge; 2 sons: Steve Peterson and wife Joy of Marietta, GA and Neil Peterson and wife Tera of Badger, IA; 3 grandchildren: Jarrod Peterson and wife Laura of Atlanta, GA, Rhiannon Peterson of Badger, and Ayrton Peterson of Badger; 1 sister: Ruby Kopps of Mason City; and sister-in-law: Sandy Peterson of Mason City. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and 8 siblings: Harland Peterson, Marie Kelly, Lois Cooper, Richard Peterson, Gene Peterson, Cecil Peterson, Ruth Latham and James Skatter.
